This charming city comes alive during the winter period as they claim home to the first ever decorated Christmas tree, 500 years ago.
The city is known for its great love of traditional and folklore which says that a group of tradesmen and captains went to the forest to find the biggest fir tree they could with the intention of burning it on the banks of the river. The men wondered what to do with the tree and found it impractical to burn to let to ponder, children found the tree and decorated it to their liking.
The men found the tree and displayed it where the City Hall Square now lies – this became tradition to display a decorated fir tree during the Christmas season.
During this Christmas Break you can experience the festive spirit that lights up the city with a sightseeing tour and a visit to one of their many Christmas markets. This gives you the chance to purchase last minute Christmas gifts and taste wholesome traditional food. A tour not to be missed.
