The cathedral was originally built in memory of the Victory of Napolean in 1812.  In 1931 the cathedral was blown up under orders from Stalin but was later rebuilt during the 1990’s.  The museum now contains pieces of the exploded cathedral as well as offering a panoramic view of the city centre.
