Erected in 1801 for Tsar Paul I, who lived in the Castle for just 40 days before he was murdered.  The castle was later acquired by the Guards Corps of Engineers, with its most famous graduate being the writer Fyodor Dostoevsky.  The castle is today used as part of the Russian Museum.
